Decision At the same meeting, following the adoption of Security Council resolution 800 (1993), the President made the following statement on behalf of the members of the Council:4 "The Security Council has decided to recommend to the General Assembly that the Slovak Republic be admitted as a Member of the United Nations. On behalf of the members of the Security Council,

I wish to extend my congratulations to the Slovak Republic on this historic occasion.

Resolutions or decisions on this question were adopted by the Council in 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1952, 1955, 1956, 1957,1958,1960,1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966,1967,1968, 1970,1971,1972,1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1990, 1991 and 1992.

"The Council notes with great satisfaction the Slovak Republic's solemn commitment to uphold the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, and to fulfil all the obligations contained therein.

"We look forward to the day in the near future, when the Slovak Republic will join us as a Member of the United Nations and to working closely with its representatives."

B. Application of the Czech Republic Decisions At its 3156th meeting, on 7 January 1993, the Council, following the adoption of its agenda, decided to refer the application of the Czech Republic for membership in the United Nations 5to the Committee on the Admission of New Members for examination and report, as provided in rule 59 of the provisional rules of procedure.

At its 3158th meeting, on 8 January 1993, the Council discussed the report of the Committee on the Admission of New Members concerning the application of the Czech Republic for admission to membership in the United Nations.6 Resolution 801 (1993)

Decision At the same meeting, following the adoption of Security Council resolution 801 (1993), the President of the Council made the following statement on behalf of the members: 7 "The Security Council has just recommended to the General Assembly that the Czech Republic be admitted to membership in the United Nations. It is with great pleasure that, on behalf of the members of the Council, I congratulate the Czech Republic on this historic occasion.
