Reiterates that the Forœ should fully implement its mandate as defined in resolutions 425 (1978), 426 (1978) and aJl other relevant resolutions;

Requests the Secretary-General to continue consultations with the Government of Lebanon and other parties directly concemed with the implementation of the present resolution and to report to the Security Council thereon.

Decisions

At the same meeting, following the adoption of resolution 701 (1991), the President made the following statement on bebalf of the Council:26 "lhe members of the Security Council have noted with appreciation the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon23 submitted in conformity with resolution 684 (1991) of30 January 1991.

"lhey reaffirm their commitment to the full sovereignty, independenœ, territorial integrity and national unity of Lebanon within its intemationally recognized boundaries. In this context, they assert that any State shall refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State, or in any other manner inconsistent with the purposes of the United Nations.

"As the Council extends the mandate of the Force for a further interim period on the basis of resolution 425 (1978) of 19 March 1978, the members of the Council again stress the need for the implementation of that resolution in ail its aspects. They express their appreciation for the continuing efforts of the Secretary-General and his staff in this regard. They reiterate their full support for the Taif Agreement and commend the Lebanese Govemment for the recent sucœssful deployment of its army in the Sidon and Tyre regions in the process of extending its authority over aJI Lebanese territory.

"lhe members of the Council take this opportunity to commend the troops of the Force and the troop-contributing countries for their sacrifices and commitment to the cause of international peace and security under difficult circumstances."

At its 3019th meeting, on 29 November 1991, the Council discussed the item entitled "lhe situation in the Middle East: report of the Secretary-f'.,eneral on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (S/23233 and Corr.l)".27 Resolution 722 (1991)
