Security Council welcomes the election of the President of the Republic of Lebanon Joseph Aoun, as well as the designation of Nawaf Salam as Prime Minister. The election of a new President of the Republic is a long-awaited and critical step to overcome Lebanon’s political and institutional crisis. The Security Council stresses that the formation of a government is critical for Lebanon’s stability and resilience to withstand regional and domestic challenges and encourages all parties in Lebanon to demonstrate renewed unity to that end, in order to ensure Lebanon’s ability to address the various challenges facing the country. It expresses its concerns about the reported violations after November 27 and calls for all violations of the arrangement to stop.
