At its 55th plenary meeting, on 22 July 2015, the Economic and Social Council, taking note of Commission on Population and Development decisions 2004/2 of 26 March 200460and 2005/2 of 14 April 200561 and resolution 2006/1 of 10 May 2006 62on the methods of work of the Commission, and recalling General Assembly resolution 68/1 of 20 September 2013 entitled “Review of the implementation of General Assembly resolution 61/16 on the strengthening of the Economic and Social Council”, in which the Assembly called for, inter alia, the harmonization and coordination of the agendas and work programmes of the functional commissions, decided:

(a) That at its forty-ninth session, in 2016, the Commission would review the functioning of its methods of work, with a view to further enhancing the impact of the work of the Commission and its contribution to the Council;

(b) To request the Secretariat, in consultation with Member States and the United Nations Population Fund, to prepare a note for consideration by the Commission at its forty-ninth session on ways and means to achieve the above-mentioned objectives.
