At its 46th plenary meeting, on 16 July 2014, the Economic and Social Council authorized an international

expert group meeting on the theme “Dialogue on an optional protocol to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples”, to be based on the study prepared on that topic,44 with a focus on land, territories and resource rights, together with all of the rights contained in the Declaration,45 in particular the right to self-

determination, self-government and autonomy, as well as issues raised at the thirteenth session of the Permanent

Forum on Indigenous Issues.
