At its 44th plenary meeting, on 30 July 2009, the Economic and Social Council decided to authorize a three-day international expert group meeting on the theme “Indigenous peoples: development with culture and identity – articles 3 and 32 of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples”, and requested that the results of the meeting be reported to the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues at its ninth session.
