At its 38th plenary meeting, on 25 July 2005, the Economic and Social Council took note of Commission on Human Rights resolution 2005/82 of 21 April 2005,53 and approved the Commission’s decision to establish the mandate of a special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Sudan for one year to monitor the situation of human rights in the Sudan, and to request the Special Rapporteur to submit an interim report to the General Assembly at its sixtieth session and to report to the Commission at its sixty-second session.

The Council also endorsed the Commission’s request to the Secretary-General to provide the Special Rapporteur with all necessary assistance to enable him/her to discharge his/her mandate fully.
