At its 53rd plenary meeting, on 5 November 2004, the

Economic and Social Council:

(a) Decided that the 2005 regular session of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations would be held from 5 to 18 January 2005 and that its resumed 2005 session would be held from 9 to 20 May 2005 on the understanding that conference services for five days (5–7, 10 and 11 January 2005) would be provided on an asavailable basis;

(b) Approved the provisional agenda for the 2005 session of the Committee as set out below:

Election of officers.

Adoption of the agenda and other organizational matters.

Applications for consultative status and requests for reclassification received from non-governmental organizations:

Applications for consultative status and requests for reclassification deferred from the previous session of the Committee;

Quadrennial reports submitted by non-governmental organizations in general and special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council:

Deferred quadrennial reports submitted by nongovernmental organizations in general and special consultative status with the Council;

Review of quadrennial reports submitted by nongovernmental organizations in general and special consultative status with the Council.

Strengthening of the Non-Governmental Organizations Section of the Secretariat.

Review of the methods of work of the Committee:
