At its 49th plenary meeting, on 25 July 2003, the

Economic and Social Council decided to transmit to the General

Assembly the recommendation contained in draft decision VII,

adopted by the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues,87

regarding a Second International Decade of the World’s

Indigenous People, with a view to initiating consideration of

such a decade, taking into account, inter alia, the forthcoming

review by the Council in 2004, and further decided to initiate

this review.
