Expresses its satisfaction that the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa, inaugurated 011 24 October 1986, has become operational;

Commends the Secretary-General for his efforts in

taking the necessary measures to ensure the effective functioning ofthe Centre and requests him to continue to lend ali the necessary support to the Centre;

Expresses its gratitude to those Member States and international, governmental and 11011-governmental organizations which have already made contributions to ensure the functioning of the Centre;

Appeals once again to Member States, as well as to international, governmental and non-governmental organizations, to make voluntary contributions in order to strengthen the effective operational activities of the Centre;

Requests the Secretary-General to report to the General Assembly at its forty-third session on the implementation of the present resolution.

Welcomes the inauguration at Lima on 9 October 1987 of the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latín America;

Also welcomes the promptness with which the Secretary-General has taken the necessary administrative measures to ensure the functioning of the Centre, and requests him to continue to give the Centre ali necessary support;

Expresses its thanks to the host Member State for its valuable contribution to the functioning of the Centre;

Relieves that, in carrying out its activities, the Centre will seek to promote relations of mutual trust and security between the countries of the region in a spirit of harmony, solidarity and co-operation for the implemenlation of measures for peace and disarmament, and for the promotion of economic and social development in La1in America;

Recommends that the Centre hold, in 1988, a conference of experts on the strengthening of political cooperation in Latin America in the areas of peace, disarmament, development and security in the context of the World Disarmament Campaign;

Again calls upan Member States and international, governmental and non-governmental organizations to make voluntary contributions to thc Centre;

Requests the Secretary-General to transmit that appeal to ali Member States in order to ensure the normal functioning of the Centre;

Also requests the Secretary-General to report to the General Assembly at its forty-third session on the implementation of the present resolution.

Convening of the third special session of the General Assembly devoted to disarmament

Decides that the third special session of the General Assembly devoted to disarmament shall be held from 31 May to 25 June 1988 at United Nations Headquarters in New York;

Endorses the report of the Preparatory Committee for the Third Special Session ofthe General Assembly Devoted to Disarmament and the recommendations contained therein;

Endorses a/so the recommendation of the Preparatory Committee that it meet in New York from 25 January to 5 February 1988 in order to consider substantive issues related to the session for incorporation in the document or documents to be adopted at the third special sess~on _devoted to disarmament, and any remaining orgamzat10nal and procedural matters, with the understanding that the Preparatory Committee, at that session, would determine the need for a subsequent session;

Expresses its appreciation to the members of the Preparatory Committee for their constructive contribution to its work;

Requests the Preparatory Committee to submit its final report to the General Assembly at its third special session devoted to disarmament; . 6.

Requests ali Member States engaged in bilateral, reg10nal or multilateral negotiations on disarmament issues outside the framework of the United Nations to submit appropriate information on such negotiations to the General Assembly in accordance with paragraph 27 of the Final Document ofthe Tenth Special Session ofthe General Assembly before the third special session devoted to disarmament;

Requests the Secretary-General to prepare necessary documentation, including background material, as may be requested by the Preparatory Committee for the third special session of the General Assembly devoted to disarmament;

Requests the Secretary-General to render to the Preparatory Committee all necessarv assistance for the completion of its work;

Decides to include in the provisional agenda of its forty-third session an ítem entitled "Review of the implementation of the recommendations and decisions

Takes note with satisfaction of the report of the Secretary-General on the world disarmament conference;8g 2.

Expresses its gratitude to the Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee on the World Disarmament Conference for his consultations with the representatives of the nuclear-weapon States, as well as with all other States, as requested in resolution 41/61;

Renews the mandate of the Ad Hoc Committee:

Requests the Ad Hoc Committee to continue to maintain close contact with the representatives of the nuclear-weapon States, as well as with all other States, in order to remain currently informed oftheir positions on the queshon of convening a world disarmament conference, and to consider any relevant comments and observations that might be made, especially bearing in mind paragraph 122 ofthe Final Document ofthe Tenth Special Session;

A/so requests the Ad Hoc Committee to report to the General Assembly at its third special session devoted to disarmament;

Further requests the Ad Hoc Committee to hold eme session in 1988 of two days' duration for the preparation and adoption of its report to the third special session devoted to disarmament.
