Measures to Accelerate the Promotion of Respect for Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms

Urges all Governments to make special efforts during the United Nations Development Decade to promote respect for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms, and invites them to include in their plans for economic and social development measures directed towards the achievement of further progress in the implementation of the human rights and fundamental freedoms proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in subsequent declarations and instrnments in the field of human rights;

Calls upon the technical assistance authorities of the United Nations and the specialized agencies to give all possible assistance, within the framework of their programmes during the United Nations Development Decade, with a view to achieving progress in the field of human rights;

Invites the Economic and Social Council to request the Commission on Human Rights to continue its consideration of the question of the further promotion and encouragement of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms ;

Recommends that the Economic and Social Council should, in studying the question of transferring the resources released as a result of disarmament, bear in mind the economic needs of all countries, particularly of the less developed countries, in order to help them to achieve the safeguarding of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
